Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Gershwin Songbook was a 1959 five-album set by Ella Fitzgerald, focusing on the songs of George and Ira Gershwin. It was recorded with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, marking the first time Ella and Riddle had worked together. This album is the largest single recording project that Ella ever worked on and is considered by many to be one of the most ambitious achievements in Western popular music.

Constellations is a new set of songs written and arranged for Dave Douglas' Tiny Bell Trio. It was recorded mid-tour for a more live and immediate character than the group's first CD. 'Vanitatus Vanitatum (mit Humor)' is an interpretation of the first of Schumann’s 5 Stücke im Volkston (5 Pieces in Folk Style) for cello and piano transformed with compelling improvisation by extending the chords of the middle section. In the closing cadenza we hear the final notes played by Jim Black’s string drum, which was damaged irreparably in the execution of its part. 'Taking Sides' is dedicated to all victims of the brutality in former Yugoslavia, while the track 'Scriabin' pays tribute to that Russian composer. The Tiny Bell Trio members seem to have developed split-second reaction times and true fluidity between roles of soloist and accompanist, integrating their own distinctively playful sound into the many Eastern European song forms presented here.

In 1957 Johnny Cash became the first Sun artist to release a long-playing album. Although he was Sun's most prolific and consistently best-selling artist at that time, Cash felt constrained by his contract with the small label. Elvis Presley had already left Sun, and Phillips was focusing most of his attention and promotion on Jerry Lee Lewis. The following year Cash left the label to sign a lucrative offer with Columbia Records, where his single 'Don't Take Your Guns To Town' (featured on this album) became one of his biggest hits. This 2-CD set focuses on one of the most creative periods in his long career and on h is Gospel/Folk roots.
