Carter Pann's 'Slalom' gives a taste of the thrill of downhill ski-ing. Charles Ives' 'The Alcotts' (arr. Jonathan Elkus) is a re-imagining of the lyrical third movement of Ives's Concord Sonata. Michael Mower's Concerto for Flute and Wind Band uses a variety of popular styles including swing, Latin, and rock. Were You There? by John P. Lynch is based on the traditional hymn tune. John Mackey's Redline Tango won the American Bandmaster's Association Ostwald Composition Contest, 2005.
